Enugu South Rejects Political Imposition, Demands Respect for the People’s Will

At a time when Nigerians continue to demand accountability, fairness, and genuine representation from political leaders, members of the APC family in Enugu South say democracy must not be reduced to a system where a few powerful individuals determine the future of the people without consultation.

Strong concerns have continued to emerge within the party over alleged moves by political godfathers to impose the current Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Caleb Onyema Ani, for a second term in office. Many party faithfuls insist that leadership should reflect the will and aspirations of the grassroots, not the interests of a select few political actors.

According to stakeholders within the APC in Enugu South, the local government chairmanship position should not become the personal property of any individual or political camp. They argue that democracy thrives when credible, competent, and widely accepted candidates are allowed to emerge through transparent consultation and consensus-building.

Party members maintain that the opposition is not driven by personal hatred, but by the belief that Enugu South deserves a more credible and broadly accepted candidate capable of strengthening party unity, advancing development, and working closely with the masses.

They further appealed to His Excellency, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, to listen to the voice of the people and support the emergence of a candidate who truly understands the struggles and expectations of ordinary residents of Enugu South. According to them, the people desire leadership that will work hand in hand with the masses rather than leadership allegedly imposed through political influence.

Across wards and communities, many supporters have continued to voice dissatisfaction over what they describe as attempts to recycle leadership without properly listening to the feelings and expectations of party members and residents. They insist that loyalty, sacrifice, and years of commitment to the party should not be ignored in favour of political imposition.

Stakeholders also called on former Governor of the old Anambra State, Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, and his wife to allow the people of Enugu South freely determine their political future without interference or pressure from political godfathers. According to them, the will of the people must remain supreme in any democratic process.

They warned against actions capable of deepening divisions within the APC in Enugu South, stressing that the future of the party depends heavily on fairness, inclusion, and respect for democratic principles.

“Our demand is simple,” one party supporter stated. “Allow the people to have a voice. Support a credible candidate that can unite the party and truly represent the interests of Enugu South.”

The APC family in Enugu South insists that the local government belongs to the people and not to political godfathers. They reaffirmed their rejection of imposition, forceful leadership, and backdoor political arrangements, while calling for transparency and genuine internal democracy ahead of the next local government elections.

“No to godfatherism. No to political imposition. No to imposed second term agenda. Enugu South deserves better,” supporters declared.
