The sun set on veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was 66 and died after a prolonged battle with stage-four cancer.
His daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced his death in an emotional live video on social media, days after the family had dismissed an earlier report of his death as false.
For more than four decades, Hassan remained a prominent figure in Yoruba-language movies, moving from stage performances and work outside entertainment to becoming one of the industry’s most recognisable faces.
His death led to an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, family, and friends who were thrown into mourning. Ogogo was buried on Monday in his Ilaro hometown in Ogun State.
