A new digital healthcare platform, Nexa Nurse, is set to transform access to professional home-based nursing care in Nigeria by connecting patients with qualified and verified nurses within their communities.
The platform was unveiled at the Nurse Career Growth Summit 2026 in Lagos, ahead of its official launch on September 7, 2026. The initiative is designed to make professional nursing care more accessible, convenient, and reliable, particularly for people who may find it difficult or unnecessary to visit a hospital for certain healthcare needs.
Bringing Professional Nursing Care Closer to Home
Speaking at the event, Collins Nwude, Chief Technical Officer/Chief Operating Officer of Nexa Nurse, said the platform was developed to bring greater professionalism, accountability, and technology into Nigeria’s growing home healthcare sector.
Home-based healthcare has existed in various forms for years, he noted, but Nexa Nurse is designed to create a structured system where people can conveniently access qualified and registered healthcare professionals.
“Nexa Nurse is a digital healthcare platform in Nigeria on a mission to make quality, professional healthcare more accessible, convenient and reliable for Nigerians,” Collins Nwude said.
He added that the long-term vision is to transform how healthcare is accessed and delivered across Africa by using technology to connect people with trusted healthcare professionals.
The Nexa Nurse mobile application will be available on both Android and iOS, giving users the ability to request professional nursing services from their location.
Safety and Accountability at the Centre
Patient and healthcare professional safety is a key component of the platform.
Nwude explained that Nexa Nurse incorporates security features, including an SOS function, designed to support emergency response and help address security concerns during home visits.
The company is also exploring partnerships with relevant security agencies to further strengthen safety measures for healthcare professionals and clients using the platform.
A “Child of Necessity”
Speaking at the summit, medical practitioner Dr. Tunji Akintade described Nexa Nurse as a “child of necessity,” particularly given the challenges surrounding healthcare access and the shortage of healthcare professionals in Nigeria.
According to him, not every healthcare need requires a patient to physically visit a hospital.
He pointed to patients who have already been assessed by a healthcare professional and prescribed routine procedures, such as daily injections, as an example of where home-based nursing services can provide a practical alternative.
“We have a lot of patients who have issues going to hospitals. They have been placed on daily injections for a period.”
He explained that connecting such patients with qualified nurses within their communities could reduce unnecessary hospital visits and help ease congestion in healthcare facilities.
However, Akintade stressed that patient safety must remain paramount and that only properly qualified and knowledgeable nurses should provide professional services through platforms such as Nexa Nurse.
Creating More Opportunities for Nurses
Beyond improving access to healthcare, the platform could also create new opportunities for qualified nurses.
Akintade noted that many trained nurses struggle to secure placements in government and other healthcare facilities. Digital platforms such as Nexa Nurse, he said, could provide an additional avenue for qualified professionals to offer their services and generate income.
“Quite a lot of nurses are there. They are not even getting placements in the government. But if you give them this virtual opportunity, they will be gainfully employed.”
The platform could be particularly beneficial to elderly people, individuals with mobility challenges, patients recovering at home, and others who may find travelling to a healthcare facility difficult.
Maintaining Professional Standards
While technology can improve access, Akintade emphasised the importance of maintaining professional standards in home-based healthcare.
He called for appropriate clinical prescriptions, proper documentation, accountability, and digital reporting following each assignment.
He also noted that the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the important role technology can play in healthcare delivery and encouraged the sector to build on the lessons learned from that period.
For nurses, he stressed that professional competence must go hand in hand with empathy and ethical practice.
“As nurses, you are the eyes and ears of the doctor, but also the voice of the patients.”

Also speaking at the event, Francis Adeshina, a mind coach and speaker, highlighted the potential of platforms such as Nexa Nurse to provide healthcare professionals with additional income opportunities and support their journey towards financial independence.
The summit also featured a panel discussion involving six nursing professionals who explored the opportunities and challenges shaping modern nursing practice, technology-driven healthcare delivery, career growth, and the future of home-based care in Nigeria.
