Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he is ready to die alongside Nigerians determined to defend their votes and fight for what he described as the rescue of the country.
Obi made the declaration on Thursday while addressing supporters at a town hall in Port Harcourt, urging them not to be intimidated as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Don’t be intimidated,” Obi said. “Somebody said, ‘We are ready to die.’ Let me tell you, I’m equally ready to die. So you’re not alone.”
The former Anambra State governor told his supporters that the immediate task was to ensure that Nigerians’ votes count, urging them to actively defend the electoral process.
“All they want is for you to defend and demand that the vote must count. And that is the demand we are going to make, and make aggressively,” he said.
Obi warned that attempts could be made to manipulate the electoral process, but expressed confidence that such efforts would face greater resistance this time.
“Yes, they will try to manipulate it. But let me tell you, it will not be easy this time,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to participate actively in political campaigns, saying the country could only be rescued through collective action.
“So if your hands are short, go to that campaign, believing that all of us will rescue our country,” Obi said.
The NDC presidential candidate further warned against allowing electoral irregularities to persist, arguing that the consequences of poor leadership and a flawed political system were already being felt by Nigerians.
“By allowing them to continue, that glitch will glitch our life. That’s why we are suffering today,” he said.
“Our refinery is bad because our leadership is bad,” he said.
