The Executive Director, Development Specs Academy, Okey Ikechukwu, has praised the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 elections but called for cautious optimism.
Ikechukwu, said the steps taken by the electoral body so far for the 2027 elections have been “reassuring”.
“Beginning with the electoral process, the steps INEC has taken can be described as reassuring. In other words, there would be no manual voting and all the rest of it,” he said on Monday’s edition of the show.
“Whereas I have some optimism in that regard, I look at it also and invite all of you to look at it with a sense of recent history. Before Yakubu’s election of 2023, our enthusiasm was beyond the moon.
“We expected the IReV to work. We are looking at an electoral process that was unpeachable under him; therefore, everybody was sure that truth would prevail. The voters’ performance would be respected, etc.”
