The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy conditions and thunderstorms across several parts of Nigeria on Monday, August 24, 2026.
In the northern states, NiMet said that patches of clouds are expected throughout the morning, while thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected in the afternoon and evening.
For the north-central states, cloudy conditions are anticipated in the morning.
Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over most parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Plateau states in the afternoon and evening.
In the southern states, cloudy skies are expected in the morning, with chances of light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
Intermittent moderate rainfall is expected over most parts of the region in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet advised residents to remain cautious as “strong winds may precede thunderstorms.
“Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas should remain alert,” the agency said in its daily weather outlook. “Avoid driving or walking through flooded roads. Disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms where necessary.”
The agency also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather briefings from NiMet for safe flight planning.
