Anambra Holds Local Govt Polls

The atmosphere has already taken on the familiar character of a grassroots election centre across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State, as voters, electoral officials and party agents converge for the local government election.

As of the time of filing this report, voters are already arriving at the polling venues listed by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) across the 21 local government areas, as locations for electoral activities.

Voters at the polling centers are ready to vote, party supporters are keeping watch over proceedings, electoral personnel are attending to final arrangements, and security personnel are maintaining order around the voting environments.

The settings reflect the intimate nature of grassroots politics, where voters often know the candidates, their families, and the issues affecting their immediate communities.

In this election, however, many political parties in the state did not field candidates in most of the local government areas.

ANSIEC has made promises that it had trained and equipped ad-hoc personnel and deployed electoral materials for the exercise across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards; there is, then, high hope of a peaceful and orderly exercise.

The local government election is a significant test of grassroots participation and democratic representation in the state, and Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has given assurances of a peaceful process.
