The Osun State governorship campaign spokesperson for the Accord Party, Bamidele Salam, has accused opposition parties of allegedly planning to intimidate voters and suppress turnout in the six local government areas of Ijesa land ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
He alleged that the plan was to create fear among voters in the area and prevent them from coming out to cast their ballots.
“This is their grand plan. Their plan is to scare people away from voting in Ijesa land because, by their plan, they hope that they could use the six local governments in Ijesa land, lock the place down, scare voters away and write results on Saturday,” Salam said.
According to him, the alleged strategy was motivated by the belief that the opposition could not defeat the Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, in a free and fair contest.
“They know that even the atmosphere in Osun, even the mood of the people, they cannot match Senator Ademola Adeleke one-to-one in a free and fair contest, and all they are interested in is to suppress the votes and threaten people,” he said.
Salam urged residents across the state to remain peaceful and not allow the alleged intimidation to prevent them from participating in the election.
“We are telling everybody in Osun to remain peaceful, to continue to be peaceful. Members of the Accord have always been very peaceful and very law-abiding.
“They should, and above all, they should not be scared. All they are trying to do is to scare people away so that they don’t come out and vote. Come out on Saturday and vote,” he said.
Fadahunsi, who also appeared on the show, was asked whether he could also call on his supporters to remain peaceful and refrain from violence. The senator said, “My people, go and vote. Stop killing them. That is my own wish. If you continue to kill them, there will be no peace because we don’t want peace to elude us in Osun. That is my own.”
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke has also alleged plot to arrest and detain leaders of the accord party.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, with political parties and their candidates campaigning to secure votes across the state’s 30 local government areas.
