The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja has been temporarily closed following a security alert from the Police Headquarters over a credible threat to the facility.
The Stadium Management and Abuja Security Command announced the closure in a security notice issued to users of the stadium.
According to the notice, all entrances to the facility were to be closed from Monday night, August 3, 2026, and would remain shut until further directives from the Police Headquarters.
The authorities also directed all persons still within the stadium premises to vacate the facility promptly and peacefully.
“Security personnel have been deployed to enforce this measure and ensure public safety,” the notice stated.
The management urged members of the public to remain calm, comply with instructions from law enforcement authorities and avoid loitering around the stadium gates.
It added that further updates would be communicated once additional directives were received from the Police Headquarters.
The closure affects individuals currently using or planning to access the stadium pitch, including those expected to use the facility on Tuesday.
The Moshood Abiola National Stadium, located along Constitution Avenue in the Kukwaba area of Abuja, is a major multi-purpose sports facility and one of Nigeria’s principal sporting venues.
The 60,491-capacity stadium, which was completed in 2003, serves as a venue for major sporting competitions, national events and other public activities.
The facility was renamed the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in 2019 in honour of the late businessman and politician, Moshood Abiola.
No timeline has been given for the reopening of the stadium, with access remaining suspended pending further directives from the security authorities.
